you will need a scrap of acetate and marker pen
draw the lines as shown in image
i used the right angle lines on my cutting mat
here i have over laid it onto a stamped image
as you will see the light scorce is coming from the right
this can be moved around to any angle left right top bottom
you choose

(example)-the blue arrows show where the light will hit
this is where you will start with your lightest colour
be it Spectrum Noir ...Crayons... or water colour paints
after a while you wont need to use the aid
its a great way of learning to get a 3d effect from you stamped images
